Funding

The Foundation Biobased Future offers a range of opportunities and programmes to support initiatives and ideas that contribute to a bio-based – and therefore sustainable – future. For example, scholarships and grants are available to support early-career researchers and students (including the so-called Germany Scholarship, „Deutschland Stipendium“). Specific financial support, for example for publications or travel expenses to conferences and congresses, is intended to enable young scientists to build a platform for their topics, ideas and findings, to present them and to find key collaboration partners.

As part of our efforts to support the next generation of researchers, we aim – within the scope of a private foundation’s capabilities – to connect researchers and institutions, facilitate contacts, support research ideas, award grants and commission research. The foundation also funds prizes and awards, including the Innovation Prize of the Association for General and Applied Microbiology (VAAM).

Utilizing biological ressources and processes

Funding is available for initiatives that identify new ways of utilising biological resources, biotechnological methods and innovative processes, materials and modes of action to support a sustainable economy. This covers a wide range of sectors and fields, such as medicine, biotechnology, agriculture and food, product development and many more.

The Foundation Biobased Future supports researchers, primarily in the fields of

  • biotechnology
  • microbiology
  • genetics and molecular biology
  • materials science
  • sustainalble production

The artistic interpretation of research findings is another area in which the foundation can play a part.

Research and science communication

Particular attention is also paid to promoting effective and impactful science communication. Researchers who are able to clearly communicate their research, projects, findings and results both within their discipline and beyond – to professional and trade associations, policymakers, the media and the general public – are to receive special support. The Foundation therefore supports working methods, initiatives and projects that convey scientific findings in an accessible manner and strengthen the exchange between research and the public, for example through specialist articles and guest contributions, press relations and media presence, events, workshops and conferences, scientific publications and new communication formats. Interdisciplinary work – such as at the interface between science, art and society – may also be supported.

The aim is to help bring innovative ideas into practice and have a social impact more quickly.

Funding enquiries

The Foundation undertakes its own projects as well as research initiatives in collaboration with academics, universities and other private and public research institutions. If you are a researcher wishing to apply for funding – for example, for conferences, publications or research trips – or would like to propose a collaboration, please feel free to contact us at info@biobasedfuture.org.
